What are Bubble games?
Bubble games are games where players aim and shoot bubbles at a cluster of bubbles at the top of the playing screen.
The goal is to clear the bubbles from the screen by matching (creating a group or chain of) three or more bubbles of the same color. Players earn points by creating groups of bubbles that match and disappear. Additional bubbles are typically added to the game board when one or more launches are made without making a match.
History of Bubble games
The history of bubble games can be traced back to 1994, with the release of Puzzle Bobble, also known as Bust-a-Move. Developed by Taito Corporation, Puzzle Bobble already had the game mechanics that we now associate with bubble games: shooting colored bubbles at a cluster of bubbles at the top of the screen to create matches and clear the board. The game quickly became popular and was followed by similar titles, such as Snood and Bubble Shooter.
Since then, bubble games have evolved and expanded, with different types of gameplay, mechanics, and challenges.
Popular Bubble games
Bubble Shooter
Bubble Shooter is a classic bubble game that was first released in 2002 by Absolutist. The game quickly gained popularity and has since been released on multiple platforms.
In Bubble Shooter, players must aim and shoot colored bubbles at a cluster of bubbles at the top of the screen to create matches of three or more bubbles of the same color and clear the board.
Bubble Shooter has inspired numerous other bubble games and has helped to popularize the bubble game genre.
Bubble Spinner
Bubble Spinner is a popular bubble game, developed by DeadWhale, that combines the classic gameplay of bubble shooting with a spinning game mechanic.
The objective of the game is to shoot bubbles at a cluster of bubbles in the center of the screen, rotating the cluster with each shot. Players must create matches of three or more bubbles of the same color to clear the board.
Zuma
Zuma is an action-packed bubble game that was developed by Oberon Media and published by PopCap Games in 2003.
In the game, players control a stone frog and shoot colored balls from its mouth into a chain of moving balls that follow a certain path. Players must create matches of three or more bubbles of the same color, removing them from the chain. Players must prevent that the chain of balls reaches the skull at the end of the path.
The game is set in a mystical Aztec world and has several sequels, e.g. Zuma's Revenge and Zuma Deluxe.
