Josephine Solitaire game info
- Family: Forty Thieves solitaire games
- Type: Closed simple packer
- Decks: One deck (52 cards)
- Game time: Short
- Chance of winning: Medium
Goal
Move all the cards to the 8 foundations, each built up in suit from Ace to King.
Layout & deal
Josephine uses two decks (104 cards). 40 cards are dealt face-up to the 10 tableau columns (4 cards each). The remaining 64 cards are put in the stock.
Gameplay
- Tableau columns are built down in the same suit.
- Top cards in the tableau piles can always be moved. Sequences of cards in the same suit and in correct descending order can be moved together.
- Any card, or properly ordered sequence, can be put in an empty tableau column.
- Click the stock to turn over a card to the waste pile. The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or to the foundation.
- There is no redeal of the stock.
Strategy
- Try to get an empty column as quickly as possible, and try to keep it throughout the game.
- Make sure cards don't get buried in the waste, because there is no redeal of the stock. This means it's important to bring as many cards as possible into play by moving them from the waste to the tableau. Note that sometimes it might be better not to bring a card into play if there is a same card blocking another valuable card.
- Be mindful of Kings because they block the game, they can only be played to an empty tableau column or to a foundation.
- Don't immediately play cards to foundations, sometimes it is better to keep them around.
Related games
In Forty Thieves, cards cannot be moved around as a group, only one card at a time can be moved. Besides this its rules are similar as Josephine Solitaire.
