Sixty-six
Sixty-Six is a trick-taking card game for two players, originating in Germany where it is known as Sechsundsechzig (or sometimes Paderbörnern). It is closely related to Schnapsen, the national card game of Austria. There are other popular variations, e.g. Mariáš (Czech Republic / Slovakia), Ulti (Hungary), Marjapussi (Finland), and Bezique (France).
66 is played with 2 players, using 24 cards from a French-suited deck. A game takes around 15 minutes to play.
Sixty-Six is played by two players, each playing for themselves.
Sixty-Six is played with a French-suited deck of 24 cards, by keeping only the 9s, 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces from a regular 52 card deck.
Cards rank highest to lowest as follows: A (11 points), 10 (10), K (4), Q (3), J (2), 9 (0).
The goal in Sixty-Six is to be the first player to reach 66 points by winning tricks with valuable cards and declaring marriages.
Each player is dealt six cards: first three cards each, then three more. The next card in the deck is turned face up to determine the trump suit. The remaining cards form the stock. The non-dealer plays first.
The non-dealer leads the first trick. In the early phase of the game (while cards remain in the stock) following suit is not required and the players are free to play any card.
The highest card of the lead suit wins the trick, unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump wins.
After each trick, both players draw one card from the stock, the trick winner first.
Once the stock is exhausted, the rules change: following suit becomes mandatory, playing trump is mandatory if no card of the lead suit is available, and marriages can no longer be announced.
The holder of the nine of trumps may exchange it for the face-up trump card from the stock. This exchange can only be made by the player who has the lead and has won at least one trick. It must be done immediately after both players have restocked their hands, not in the middle of a trick.
The winner of each trick leads the next trick.
A player holding both the King and Queen of the same suit may declare a marriage by leading a trick with one of the two cards. A non-trump marriage scores 20 points, a trump marriage scores 40 points. Marriages are only scored after the player has won at least one trick.
At any point during the game, the player whose turn it is to lead may close the stock by turning over the trump card. This means no more cards will be drawn. From this point on, the rules for an exhausted stock as described above are followed. If the player who closes the stock fails to reach 66 points, the opponent scores bonus game points.
A player who reaches 66 points or more announces it and wins the hand.
The number of game points awarded depends on how many points the opponent has scored:
The first player to reach 7 game points wins.
