Solitaire Windows XP
This solitaire game is inspired by the original Solitaire Windows XP game! The more modern version of Klondike Solitaire can be played here.
Solitaire is a classic card game that has been included with the Windows operating system since 1990.
It first appeared in Windows 3.0, and was developed during the summer of 1988 by Wes Cherry. The cards were designed by Susan Kare.
Including it with the operating system was a way to make Windows users familiar with using their mouse, and performing drag-and-drop operations as used for moving cards.
When Windows 8 was released, Microsoft released a new solitaire game with the name Microsoft Solitaire Collection. It features five solitaire variants including the original klondike solitaire game and can also be played on our website.
Klondike Solitaire is played with a standard deck of 52 cards.
There are seven tableau piles. The first pile is dealt one card, the second two cards, and so on. Only the top card of a stack is dealt face-up, the other cards are dealt face-down. The remainder of the deck goes face-down in the stock pile.
The objective in Solitaire Windows XP is to move all the cards to the foundation, ordered from Ace to King.
You can place a card on top of another card if it is a different color and one higher in rank. For example 7 of Hearts can be placed on top of 8 of Spades. You can also move a sequence of correctly ordered cards as a whole.
If a tableau column becomes empty, you can fill it with a King, or a sequence starting with a King.
The game is completed when all 52 cards are placed on the foundation piles.
