Fairway Solitaire game info
Fairway Solitaire is a golf-themed solitaire card game similar to golf solitaire. It belongs to the category of solitaire games, and more specifically the family of adding & pairing solitaire games. In Fairway Solitaire, there is both luck and skill required to win a game.
Rules
Fairway Solitaire is a simple game that is easy to play. The objective of the game is to clear as many cards from the table as possible.
At the bottom, there is a stock of face-down cards (draw pile) with one card flipped face-up next to it. You can remove a card from the table by clicking a card that is one higher or lower in rank than the card at the bottom. The card you clicked will be moved to the bottom, determining which move you can make next.
Next to the face-up card at the bottom there is an undo button that allows to go one step back.
When you are stuck, you can click the stock and a new card will be turned face-up. The round ends when the stock is empty and you don’t have any valid moves left.
Special cards
The golf courses often have special cards, making the game even more fun and challenging:
- Water Hazards: The blue-shaded cards must be cleared from the table to unlock a pile of cards at the right of the screen.
- Sand Traps: The 'sand wedge' card must be cleared from the table to unlock a pile of cards at the right of the screen.
- Iron Cards: Green-shaded cards with a specific golf club (going from 2 to 9). They can be removed from the table at any time. The pictured golf club will be added to the player’s stock of golf clubs at the right bottom. A golf club can be played at any time, for example when a player is stuck. If a golf club is not played during a hole, it will still be available in the next hole. Note that clicking an iron card or using a club doesn't break the current drive.
- Wild Cards: Cards that are revealed at random during gameplay. A player can either select an unknown random event that can have either a positive or negative outcome, or take a drop (1 card penalty). Examples of positive random events are removing a card of choice or finishing the hole with a perfect score. A negative outcome could be the removal of a card from the stock.
Scoring
When you end a hole, your score is the number of cards remaining on the table. This will be compared to the Par score of the hole. Your goal is to remove more cards than the Par score, so you are trying to get a score below Par.
For each course, your scores over all its holes are summed. To unlock the next course, you have to finish a course with a score of Par or lower.
Courses and holes
In this online Fairway Solitaire version (Sand and Sun Package) there are 9 courses waiting for you, with 3 or 6 holes each. It is up to you to solve puzzling card layouts.
At the beginning of the game, each course except the first one is locked. To unlock the next courses, you have to finish a course with a score of Par or lower.
Game theme
Fairway Solitaire has a unique theme with an amazing hand painted scenery, inspired by the Caddyshack movie. Playing Fairway Solitaire is very relaxing, the cards are clear and easy to read.
You will also see Gutsy McDivot appear, a gopher that is seeking revenge on the golfers who killed Bravetooth, his ancestor.
Although the game is golf-themed, you will not improve your golf swing by playing fairway solitaire. But you will be playing one of the most fun solitaire puzzle games around.
